Pregnancy and Acupuncture
Acupuncture During Pregnancy and Labour
Acupuncture has been used widely in pregnancy for over 2000 years to ensure the health of the mother and the unborn child. It a safe and effective form of treatment that offers women drug-free relief for many problems that may arise during pregnancy and childbirth. Treatment can improve a woman’s quality of life and prevent problems from becoming serious enough to necessitate medical treatment.
For the fetus to grow, it must receive essence from the kidneys as well as qi and blood produced by the organ system and sent downward by the heart. Because of the intense demand placed on the mother's resources by the growing fetus, the mother’s qi, blood, and essence must be sufficient and must be able to flow freely to the uterus. If either body fluid, qi or blood are insufficient, problems may arise with the growth and development of the fetus. Acupuncture ensures that the internal organs are functioning optimally, that the Qi is flowing freely without blockages and that there is a harmonious balance of the yin and yang forces in the body.
Acupuncture is used for the treatment of many of the problems that commonly develop in pregnancy such as:
Fatigue
Morning Sickness
Heartburn
Constipation
Breech Presentation Hemorrhoids
Back Pain and Sciatica
Edema
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Rhinitis
Induction for post due date
